We are married biologists with a wide range of interests. This blog explores our three favorite things — evolutionary biology, literature and writing, and cats. Together, we aim to publish posts on each of these subjects at least six times a week.
I am an evolutionary geneticist that uses fish to study color vision, blindness, and gene regulation. During the day I perform research in a genetics lab, while at night I write (and re-write) novels and short stories. My favorite authors are Ernest Hemingway, Richard Ford, and Margaret Atwood. My pet cats are Frank N. Beans, Maggie, and Jay-Jay.
I am also an evolutionary geneticist that uses fish to study pigment evolution and pattern formation. I also spend my days in a genetics lab, though at night I like to read and practice photography. And did I mention I love fish? And bears. And National Parks. My favorite authors are Raymond Carver, George Orwell, and David Sedaris, just to name a few. All the cats were actually mine first — they came to me.
